Dolly Parton, born Jan. 19th, 1946 in Locust Ridge Tenn. to a family of 12 poor kids who would grew up with them eventually. She learned early how to get out of the difficulties she faced thanks to her incredibly vivid imagination. Songs were being written by her before she was able to write or read. In the year she turned 8 at the time, she purchased the first electric guitar she owned and began singing for a Knoxville Tenn Radio Station. The same year, she released her first record on Gold Band Records a tiny independent label. When she was still in highschool she was able to make her mark locally but longed to be on a bigger stage. After graduating from high school in 1964, she immediately went to Nashville. Dumb Blonde, Something Fishy and Dumb Blonde both charted on Monument Records in 1967. Porter Wagoner, a syndicated presenter on television in the late '60s, was looking for a woman to sing on his show. Parton accepted the job in 1967 signed with RCA Records in 1968 and became a member of in the Grand Ole Opry in 1969. She left Wagoner's show, however, in 1974 because her solo albums, like Joshua Coat Of Many Colors and Jolene beat out their collaborative albums.
