Dolly Parton was born on January 19, 1946, in Locust Ridge Tenn. She was raised with 12 other kids. The vivid imagination of her mother was a great way to get away from the grim realities of life. Before she could write or read, she was making up her own songs. In the year she turned 8, she got her first electric guitar and began singing for an Knoxville Tenn Radio Station. Parton was hired in 1967, signed with RCA Records by 1968, becoming a member of the Grand Ole Opry. She left the show in 1974 when her solo releases such as Joshua Coat of Many Colors and Jolene began charting the collaborations they had with each other.
